What is 3G data card

What is 3G?
3G is the next generation of mobile communications systems.

PCMCIA type BSNL 3G data card is from M/s. Capitel Wireless Pvt. Ltd and available in data speed of 3.6 MBPS (Single band, price Rs.4000 inclusive of taxes) and 7.2 MBPS (Triband, price Rs.4500 inclusive of taxes).

Just plug in the 3G data card into your laptop and get the fastest available connections with download speed of nearly 7.2 Mbps.

Special Counters at Income Tax Office, Nungambakkam to receive returns from tax payers

The last date for filing income tax returns is July 31.

In order to cater to the needs of the tax payers, the Income Tax Department is gearing up to receive returns from salaried tax payers and from business (for non-audit cases only) tax payers at special counters to be operated at Aayakar Bhavan, Nungambakkam from July 28 to 31. The special counters will operate from 9.45 am to 5.30 pm.

40 counters will will accept returns from salaried assessess and 15 counters will function as help desks and for verification of PAN nos. An exclusive counter will function for senior citizens and physically challenged.

The returns of businesses whose turnover is less than Rs.60 lakh and professional income less than Rs.15 lakh, should be filed at the jurisdictional business wards.

The salaried assesses of Tambaram and Kancheepuram can file their returns at the special counters at Aayakar Bhavan apart from the Tambaram and Kancheepuram offices.

An update on Samaseer Kalvi curriculam

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to accept the changes made by the Tamilnadu Government in a state law on education to stop enforcement of samaseer kalvi curriculum approved by the previous government.

Justices J.M. Panchal, Deepak Verma and B.S. Chauhan refused the plea of the government to stay a Madras High Court order quashing the amendment aimed at scrapping the samaseer kalvi curriculum.

The bench also asked the state government to distribute the over 9 crore text books, by August 2, instead of July 22 fixed by the high court.

The bench will decide the matter on July 26.

Chennai, 2nd District in India to top Density Index as per provisional census data released

The provisional data released by the Department of Census Operations Tamilnadu shows that Chennai District is the second district in India to top the Density Index with a population density of 26,903 people per square kilometer in 2011. This figure was 24,963 per square kilometer in 2001.

The first district is the North East District of National Capital Territory of Delhi with 37,346 people per square kilometer.

The growth in the density of Chennai is primarily due to shift of people from elsewhere for better educational, employment and business activities mainly due to good infrastructure, education & medical facilities and better workforce.

Chennai with a 100 percent urban population comes first in terms of urban population followed by Kanyakumari District with 82.47 percent and Coimbatore District with 75.83.

Chennai is the no.1 district with a population of 46,81,087. This is 6.49 percent of the population in Tamilnadu. In 2001, the population was 43,43,645, 6.96 percent to the population of the state. The total population in Tamilnadu is 7,21,38,958 with 3,61,58,871 males and 3,59,80,087 females. The decadal population growth in Tamilnadu is 15.60 per cent and the sex ration is 995 females per 1000 males. The literacy rate is 80.33 percent.


One interesting data, Dibang Valley district in Arunachal Pradesh is on the top spot for having only 1 person per square kilometer and this district is also the least populous district.

Samaseer Kalvi this year itself Uniform Education System (UES)

The First Bench of the High Court of Madras, comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Mr Justice Sivagnanam ruled that UES (Uniform Education System) should be implemented from classes I to X this academic year itself. It also directed the State Government to distribute UES Textbooks to all schools by July 22 and also to constitute a new panel in three months to rectify the defects in the UES.

Advocate General Navaneetha Krishnan said the government would file an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order. The petitioners on their part, said they would also file a caveat in the Supreme Court seeking to hear their views before passing any orders on the State government's plea in the Supreme.

The Court after hearing elaborate arguments from both sides on July 12, had reserved its orders and gave the verdict today.

Now the Supreme Court will have to decide the case.

e-services for RTO offices - Chennai & Tamilnadu

With the introduction of e-services in RTO offices, citizens can now book appointments with RTO offices, register their grievances and also know its status, information such as tax rates of vehicles, contact details, starting number of vehicles, etc.

Application can be submitted online for learners license and appointments can be booked for Driving license.

New proposals are in pipeline

1) for filling the forms online and also make payment though electronic gateway;
2) declare age and medical fitness and take the online test
3) later go to RTO office with original certificates to support age, address proof and medical fitness.
4) take the driving test if certificates are in order and get the new license.

This system if implemented fully will do away with lining up at RTO offices, save time and energy for prospective applicants as also reduce stress on the employees of RTO offices. This will also eliminate brokers and corruption to a certain extent.

Release of Southern Railway Time Table 2011

The Southern Railway Time Table for 2011 and the Suburban Time Table of Chennai Division was released by the General Manager, Southern Railway on 30.6.2011.

Announcements for introduction of 19 new express trains/ mail trains, 3 pairs of passenger services, 2 pairs of MEMU services and 5 suburban services in 2011-12 were made.

Out of the 19 new trains, two non-stop AC Duronto Services, one from Chennai Central to Madurai (Bi-weekly) and the second from Chennai Central to Thiruvananthapuram (Bi-weekly) have been proposed. 4 train services are expected to be extended and the frequency of five services will be increased.
