Photographs taken by me at Semmozhi Poonga, Chennai, Tamilnadu. The garden is located in the heart of the city of Chennai at the Cathedral Road-Anna Salai junction, just opposite to the American Consulate in an area of about 20 acres. It is said that about 500 species of plants are there apart from 80 trees that was already in existence when the place was Drive-in Woodlands Hotel. Many exotic plants are imported from China and Thailand and includes bonsai varieties.
The garden is open for morning walkers from 6 am to 8 am and for general visitors from 10 am to 8 pm on all days except Tuesdays when it is closed. The entrance fee is Rs.5.00 per person and Rs.30/- for camera. The Garden has ample parking space for cars and two wheelers. A cafeteria for having light snacks, cool drinks, coffee, ice cream, etc. is available inside the garden.
Entry to the garden is through an arch which is 14 feet high and is covered with variety of plants, this is a unique feature of this garden, a vertical garden with inbuilt irrigation and drainage system.
A must see for all chennai residents and visitors. Don't miss it.
